4 Steps to Discovering the Thrills of an ATV

ATVs first became available to the public over 40 years ago and have grown in popularity over the years. People like them because they just seem so much fun to ride! Many families are now finding that riding ATVs can be a fun family outing! However before you jump on that ATV, you need to learn a few things.
The 4 Steps are: Try First, Consider Used, Get Training, and Read.
- Try First - You should ride someone else’s ATV before purchasing your own so you can see if you really like it and find what size ATV is right for you. They are not a ‘one size fits all’ type of vehicle. For example if you have a boy who weighs about 80 lbs you’ll want to put him in something like a 440-600 cc ATV vehicle. This is so you don’t put him on an ATV that has more power then he can safely handle.
- Consider Used - If you are a beginner with ATVs it’s usually best to start with a used model. This is because as you become more used to the sport you no doubt will be talking to others who have different models and you’re likely to find yourself always wanting the latest and greatest machine!
- Get Training - When you get your first ATV it would be wise to take a safety course so that you can learn the best way to protect yourself as many people are injured or killed every year in ATV accidents. Many of these could be avoided if proper precautions had been taken.
- Read - The next thing you’ll want to do is read the owner’s manual that came with your ATV. Each ATV is different, so you need to know what all the parts and labels are for. You should even take the manual with you when you take the ATV out on the trail, as you never know when it may come in handy. If you bought a used ATV and you didn’t’ get owner’s manual with it, you can acquire a copy of it by writing down the serial number of your model and taking it to a ATV dealer.
Now you’re ready to go out and learn how to handle your ATV, as that’s the only way you’ll really learn to drive it. You’ll want to go with an experienced ATV rider and be sure you have permission or are allowed to ride wherever you choose for your outing.
By following these simple guidelines you’ll soon be experiencing the thrill and excitement of driving an ATV. Just remember to take your time and master the art of driving the ATV safely while still having fun in the process!
