Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point)

Once in a while an ATV paradise exists right under your nose, but it’s so far off the beaten path that it is virtually unknown. There is such a place just south of Arizona, in Mexico. Its official name is Puerto Penasco, or as people North of the border call it, Rocky Point.

One of the main reasons it is so little known is that, unless you have a private jet, the only way you can access Rocky Point is via automobile through the border entrance in tiny Lukeville, Arizona. Once in Mexico, a short drive through the town of Sonoita, Sonora, will lead you to a four lane highway that, sixty miles later, leads directly into Rocky Point.

Off-Road Adventures Begin With An ATV

ATV, which is short for “all-terrain vehicles”, are any kind of small and open, motorized tricycles and buggies that are designed generally for off-road riding. An all-terrain vehicle is designed for only one operator. Riding an ATV is just like an ordinary motorcycle. However, all-terrain vehicles have extra wheels that provide more stability at slower speeds.

The first ever ATVs, which were designed with six wheels, were introduced to the public in the 1950s. However, Honda improved the early models by producing the first three-wheel all-terrain vehicle. It instantly became famous when it was publicly displayed in the 1971 James Bond Movie – Diamond’s are forever.
